The Centre County Historical Society spearheaded restoration efforts in 1983 of the Centre Furnace mansion and furnace properties it owns. It created a campaign organization known as Centre Furnace Renaissance 83 to raise funds for the restoration. The furnace brought wealth to the county, contributed the prominence of Bellefonte in state politics, and led to the establishment of Penn State on adjacent property.
